With much prayer and being led buy the Almighty and awesome God of both the heavens and the earth, and with just a handful of dedicated members stepping out on faith and truly believing that where two or three are gather together , touching and agreeing , that God would be in their mist.It was placed on the hearth of Rev. R. Brown the need to establish a church, a place of refuge. The name " Mt Zion Missionary Baptist Church " was decided on and the first services were held in the home of Deacon H. Holmes.Along with Deacon Holmes , the founding deacons were E. Walker, J. Burnett,Foston Jones and P. Thomas. The elder women of the church were sister Holmes and sister Brown. In addition to the families of the pastor and deacons , other faithful founding members consisted of the Stevens family, brother Robeert Williams and our own sister Irene Davis. Services were later moved to 2001 DeSoto street in a store owned by the Walkers. As the membership continued to grow it became apperant that another place of worship was needed.Deacon Foston Jones located a hallowed piece of property at the present location of 2027 Wilburforce. With much anticipation and believing that God would continue to give the increase the membership decided to erect and build a permanent place of worship. The building was constructed and built by Brother George B.Linder.Oh what a joyous and happy day it was on August 5,1960. Many praises went up as the Church danced and marched into their God blessed building under the leadership of Rev. R.Brown. With Deacon Thomas serving as President of the Brotherhood and Sister Walker serving as President of the Mission Department and Deacon Walker as President of the Deacon board.
Many pastors and members have come and gone. Pastor Richmond is currently the pastor. God has given Pastor Richmond a vision for Mt. Zion. With God's blessing and the Church stepping out on faith as it did before plans to build an even greater Mt.zion will be accomplishd.
